Who we help · Business owners & their families

Your company is the family balance sheet. Plan it that way.

For founders, CEOs, and owners, and the spouses and children who share the outcome. We work through the decisions that run through the business: when and how to sell, how to diversify, what the proceeds should do, and how the family is set up for what comes next. A member of our team coordinates with your CPA, attorney, and other advisors so the pieces fit.

Where owners usually start

Five situations. One plan that connects them.

Most owners we talk with are in at least one of these, and often two or three at once. Each one changes the others, so we plan them together.

01

Preparing to sell

“I’m thinking about selling in the next one to three years.”

The earlier the planning starts, the more options stay open. Before a sale, we work through what you want life to look like after it, what the proceeds need to do, and how timing and structure interact with taxes and your estate plan.

What we look at

  • Your goals after the exit: stay on, step back, or start something new
  • Structure questions to raise with your CPA and attorney: cash at close, earn-outs, rollover equity, seller notes
  • Tax timing and entity questions, coordinated with your CPA
  • Gifting and estate questions worth raising before a sale, coordinated with your estate attorney
02

Concentrated in one company

“Most of my net worth is tied up in one company.”

Concentration usually built the wealth. It also means one customer, one market, or one bad year can move the whole family balance sheet. We help you decide how much to keep in the business and how to build assets outside it, on a schedule you choose.

What we look at

  • How much of the family’s net worth depends on the company
  • Taking money off the table over time: distributions, compensation, partial sales
  • A portfolio outside the business that doesn’t repeat its risks
03

After the sale

“The deal closed, and the cash needs a plan.”

A liquidity event turns an operating business into a stack of decisions: taxes to set aside, income to replace, family expectations, and a portfolio that now has to do the job the company used to. We slow it down and put the order of operations on paper.

What we look at

  • Setting aside estimated taxes and near-term cash before investing
  • Replacing the income and benefits the company provided
  • Building the long-term portfolio in stages, using our Modern Portfolio Design (MPD) models
  • Charitable and family gifts, coordinated with your CPA and attorney
04

Family, next generation & estate coordination

“We want this to help the family, not complicate it.”

A family business ties family and money together: who works in it, who inherits it, and who’s ready for what. We help the family see the plan, and we keep beneficiary designations, account titling, and trusts in line with the estate plan your attorney prepares.

What we look at

  • Beneficiary designations and account titling checked against your estate documents
  • Preparing the next generation: what they know, when, and how
  • Succession questions for family members who work in the business
  • Charitable giving, from annual gifts to longer-term strategies
05

Advisors who don’t talk to each other

“I have good advisors who don’t talk to each other.”

Your CPA sees the return, your attorney sees the documents, your banker sees the deal. We keep one shared picture so decisions get made once, with everyone working from the same facts.

What we look at

  • One summary of your balance sheet, entities, and goals that your advisors can work from
  • Joint conversations when a decision needs more than one advisor
  • Your CPA and estate attorney, kept in the loop on the decisions that affect them

We slow it down and put the order of operations on paper.

How we invest

The portfolio outside the business, built on purpose.

Most of an owner’s risk already sits in the company. The money outside it should be built to complement that, not repeat it. Our Modern Portfolio Design (MPD) models follow rules written down in advance: what each part holds, what moves it, and how far any one idea can go.

How we work

Start with a conversation, not a commitment.

Three steps, in order, at your pace. Spouses and partners are welcome at every one.

01

A 20-minute fit call.

Tell us what's on your mind. We'll tell you plainly whether we're the right firm for it, and if we're not, we'll say so.

02

Your profile and risk questionnaire.

If it's a fit, you complete a personal profile and a risk questionnaire. Then we talk through portfolio construction together, so you know how your portfolio is built and why.

03

Reviews on your schedule.

Portfolios follow their rules every week. Reviews happen whenever you want one, not on a fixed calendar. Questions in between? Call us directly.
